Redningsselskapet first to use Bio-based fiber rope from OTS
Dextron® fiber rope is stronger than steel wire of the same diameter, and the weigh is a fraction. The low weight makes it much easier to transfer the towing rope between the vessels during a salvage operation. This current rope has a diameter of 18mm and can withstand 29 tons.
The fact that the Dextron® rope is bio-based means that renewable energy is used for the productions of the Dyneema® fiber used in this rope, instead of petroleum-based energy. This gives a reduced CO₂ imprint of 7/8 compared to generically produced HMPE fiber.
RS 108 Kaptein Buhre (formerly Kaptein Skaugen), which was built in 1991, has just come from a comprehensive upgrade and modernization where Redningsselskapet shows sustainability by recycling an older vessel instead of building a new one. The fact that they choose to use this environmentally friendly towing rope further emphasizes the company's awareness of sustainability and the environment.
